I came across something thought provocing signed Mircea Eliade the other day the "homo religiosus is driven by a desire for being; modern ma lives under the dominion of becoming" (Allen, Douglas. 2002. Myth and Religion in Mircea Eliade. New York/London: Routledge.)
I think this is very interesting, the difference between being and becoming. You could also label the latter self-realization; becoming something or someone (to quote our friends Daft Punk) faster, harder, better, stronger. Exactly what it means to avoid living with this before ones eyes and settling for "just" being, I'll leave open for now. But "just" being is also becoming something or someone - a completely other something or someone that what we are daily told we should be(come) by the massive forces of media and fellow humans.
