The Togetherness

I've been pretty consumed with discussing political ideology and how the Swedish parties relates to these in the last few weeks (and have written extensively about it over the summer). For those who are not Swedish nationals or do not understand Swedish this have probably been of moderate interest. However, something I'm very happy about today is the level of commitment and engagement we have seen regarding Swedish politics. My Facebook wall have absolutely exploded with everything from humoristic commentaries to pure propaganda, and everything in between. Last two elections the percentage of people voting has been around 80% of the people eligeble to vote. I think that is fantastic! 8 out of 10 adults do actually care enough to go and take a stand regarding what direction their country is heading in. In the last US election the equivalent number was aproximately 60%. And those 60% was a record high!

Regardless of what government Sweden gets tomorrow, I'm happy about the level of engagement that virtually everyone is throwing into the pot. After all, that type of caring and commitment to our future politics, is a politics in its own right, and has the potential to be just as important as the casting of votes today.

Regardless of today's result, I will also continue to talk about politics, ideology and what ties them to theology, ontology and the questions about what it is to be human, and how we should live together. Politics is not about a sunday every four years; it's about participating in the society which you are living in, and from all the social institutions and ties you are always tied in to, regardless of your commitment. Therefor it only makes good sense to actively engage these questions. It could be compared to a wind that you had power over: Either the wind will move you, or you will do what you can to make sure it blows in the right direction. Either way: the wind will blow from one place to another.
